Food Diversity; The Key to Food Security

Food Diversity: The Key to Food Security On December 10, in celebration of Terra Madre Day, a local food and biodiversity festival will be organized in Herat, Afghanistan, in collaboration with the Herat Directorate of Agriculture, local farmers, restaurants, and the private sector. The event will showcase Herat’s diverse traditional dishes and local food products, celebrating the region’s rich culinary heritage and agricultural biodiversity. It aims to promote healthy eating, support local farmers and rural communities, strengthen connections between farms, markets, and restaurants, and raise awareness of biodiversity’s vital role in food security and sustainable development. By preserving traditional food knowledge, promoting local products, and celebrating culinary diversity, the festival will connect Herat’s local heritage with the global values of the Slow Food movement: good, clean, and fair food for all.
