A Local Food Movement for Jakarta's Youth

"Sustaining Nature and Betawi Flavor: A Local Food Movement for Jakarta's Youth" This theme is designed to celebrate the connection between the rich Betawi culture and the principles of Slow Food—good, clean, and fair food—in the modern urban context of Jakarta. Our goal is to connect participants, especially the young generation, with the genuine flavor, local ingredients, and sustainable food philosophy of the Betawi people. The session will be a direct demonstration of how clean, good, and fair food practices can be realized through traditional Betawi daily dishes. Core Focus Areas & Learning Objectives: Biodiversity & Indigenous Knowledge: Focus: Highlighting the importance of endemic and local Betawi food species, such as the mengkudu (noni) plant, and the medicinal herbs used in traditional beverages. Activity Highlight: Identifying unique local ingredients that are often overlooked in mass-produced food, thereby promoting the conservation of biodiversity in Jakarta.
